Your guide to making money with Pinterest and affiliate marketing (the best way!)
I’ve been seeing a lot lately about…
I’ve been seeing a lot lately about how to make money with affiliate links on Pinterest,
so I wanted to write a post to clear up any misconceptions and share how to
best use Pinterest affiliate networks.
Yes, many of my clients do this successfully as you can definitely make money
from affiliate links with affiliate marketing. BUT, this will not be a rapid recovery process
as many articles claim.
The two main questions I see people talking about (often addressed together) are:
How can you make money on Pinterest with affiliate marketing without blogging?
How can you earn money by creating Pins and affiliate links?
None of these can be profitable and help create a sustainable business or income.
Let’s take a closer look. First, I’ll share the technical side of why this method doesn’t work,
then I’ll explain why this method doesn’t work when I look at Pinterest followers and
how people make purchasing decisions.
(ps. If you don’t really care why this doesn’t work and want to go for something that does,
you can skip this and scroll down!)
First, if you have a Pinterest business account, you can “claim” the site.
This means Pinterest knows that this is your website and all content viewed on your
website (by you or another Pinterest user) is tracked for analysis purposes.

Followers publishes content you submit from the requested URL, so linking to your site will
almost always yield better results than submitting content to another site.
Links often don’t work well, especially on websites.
Pinterest wants to provide great value to users,
not a feed full of spammy affiliate links, so it tends to block these types of links
to get the best value (e.g. blog posts, galleries, YouTube videos, etc.).
That’s the logistics of why this strategy doesn’t work, but we also need to consider
your target audience.
Understanding where your prospect will be next in their sales journey is really important,
and we’ll talk more about this in the next section.
Finally, you want to send people to your website for sustainable growth of your business.
Period.
Everything in your Pinterest campaign should focus on driving your audience to your website,
where they can go directly to your goal (affiliate sales, email sign-ups, etc.).
Here’s how to grow your audience, build a trustworthy and engaged community,
and create a website where users will keep coming back (and buying your affiliate links!).
Much better than hoping to make a few sales pitches!
Okay, now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s get to the good stuff.
How to make (real) money on Pinterest with affiliate marketing?
As we mentioned before, you need a website to send your followers to Pinterest,
and having a blog is a great way to make money on Pinterest with affiliate links.

Instead of creating Pins that are closely related to your affiliate products,
create Pins in your blog posts, include free content that is valuable to your audience, and link to your various affiliate products.
1. Understand your target audience
Understanding who your target audience is and what their interests, pain points,
and questions are can help you create the type of content they want.
For example, if you have a style blog and want to combine straight skirts,
you can create an article on “10 Ways to Wear Short Skirts in Autumn”.
2. Understand your followers
Understanding the mindset and customer journey of your Pinterest followers
is also important for creating an effective Pinterest strategy,
because they behave differently than users on other sites.
On Pinterest, users are in discovery mode.
They are actively looking for something
(e.g. food ideas, wedding favors, fashion tips, home decor, etc.),
so together we find solutions/inspiration (e.g. recipes, wedding dress
or design ideas, fashion items, home sewing instructions, etc.).
Since they are in discovery mode, they may not be ready to buy right away.
They may save your Pins for later consideration,
or they may want to get to know you and your blog first to build knowledge and trust
before relying on your referrals to make a purchase.
This means long-term affiliate income may be high,
but you’ll get paid from additional sponsors who believe in what you’re selling.
For example, one of my clients, always does amazing styling work and shares my favorite pieces.
I trust her taste and style, so now I go to her site when I’m looking for
new things because I know I’ll enjoy what she shares.
When I first saw the Site, I did not shop from any of their lines, but now I am a returning customer.
3. Make things better
Now that you know who you’re creating content for and how they create it,
it’s time to create free content, mostly blog posts.
You create blog posts about your affiliate products, which can help you build a loyal audience.
4. Keep your audience coming back again and again
The key to successful sales is to create an audience
that keeps coming back to your website and making purchases.
The way to do this is to create an email list and get users to follow you on Pinterest,
Instagram, TikTok, etc.
There are various ways, including encouraging people to follow via.
Following is a leading internet marketer,
so we always want to encourage our traffic to take the next step in the sales process
and keep them coming back again and again.
5. Know (and trust) your best salesperson
Take a look at the products that generate the most clicks and sales
and increase activity around those products.
For example, if there’s a particular brand that’s performing well,
publish some posts about that brand on their website (e.g., 5 Must-Have Ugg Boot Styles for 2024).
If a particular product is performing well,
create a message specific to that product (e.g., 10 Ways to Style Your Lululemon Motorcycle for Summer).
You can also create a landing page with a parent page that creates affiliate posts,
such as a “View Our Recommendations” page.
If you are interested in doing it. Read how here: https://fruitfulaffiliate.com/how-to-create-a-landing-page-with-a-parent-page-for-affiliate-posts-on-wordpress/
It’s definitely possible to make more money on Pinterest with affiliate marketing.
It may not be as simple as installing some tires, but if done right it can be a great long-term solution.
